The Kimberley Search & Rescue Society (KSAR)
is a trained 100% volunteer group who respond to requests from
the RCMP and other agencies for assistance in locating and rescuing
lost or injured persons within a 10,000 square kilometre area within
south eastern British Columbia. This area, located around and
within the City of Kimberley, spans north to Canal Flats and St. Mary
Alpine Park, east to the Height of the Rockies Park, south to Fort
Steele and the Cranbrook Airport, and west to the summit of Grey Creek
Pass. All KSAR members are trained in Wilderness Navigation & Survival Skills, Water Shoreline Rescue, Search Techniques, Avalanche Awareness, First Aid, Helicopter Orientation, Basic Ropes, and more. Many members have enhanced certification in Swiftwater Rescue, Avalanche Terrain & Rescue, Rope Rescue, SAR Management, Team Leadership, and Wilderness First Aid. This level of certification has allowed KSAR to develop its Water Rescue Team, a Rope Rescue Team and a Winter Rescue Team.
